Bella Betts' Musical Adventure

Share my musical adventure and musings as I embark on making my first CD!!

there has been nothing but music since i last wrote. first i had a gig in prospect park. it was so much fun! we had to bring our own sound gear and i’m learning slowly but surely how to handle it. it was also my first experience talking on stage. you have to be careful when introducing band members among other things! we even got a request for an encore!  i have a gig almost every week now! it seems like everytime i turn around there’s a new set list ( or two ) to be made. it’s hard not to let them get the better of you!

the next week i made a great deal of progress in the bach piece i’m learning. i wrote two songs one of which has a line in it that could be a possible album name. i wrote that one called the sleeping lines of bridgeport while trying to sleep one night!

i also am doing alot of blues and loving it! one day i had a “blues marathon” i played blues improv with an occasional bluegrass stomp melody and using all my blues tools for 30 mins straight getting faster all the time with the metronome!!!!! SO FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its helpful because eventually you are forced to come up with new improv ideas!!!!  i am getting better at my tone standards: play light and relaxed. dynamics! technique!, and doing some really awesome things with it!

just last night i had my biggest gig yet at the laughing goat in boulder.  we had the biggest crowd yet- all the tables were taken and tons of people were standing.  i gave it my all and played my best yet as far as band gigs go. also my band was the tightest yet and talking on stage isn’t so hard after all. there was of course a few mistakes but none were fatal. we had two special guests -that was fun! and i got to use my pickup in my mando for the first time since i was a special guest with langhorn slim at the fox. it worked perfectly and is soooooooo helpful not to have to go looking for the mic when you’re soloing or singing or whatever. it also picks up your every mistake! there’s no backing out!  i am learning so much!  the gig went until 11:00 pm ( and started at 9:00 pm!!!!!!!!! )  and it was long after midnight by the time i went to bed and as a consequence i’m exhausted and can’t remember anything more just now.

just one more thing if you live around the Denver Boulder CO area go see the band Langhorn Slim on wednesday the 6th ( this wednesday ) at the Bluebird Theater in Denver CO ( google Langhorn Slim for details ) i guarantee it will be amazing!!!!!!!!!
